What is a Tax Rebate?
A tax rebate is a refund of income tax you’ve already paid. If you’ve paid too much tax, you might be owed a rebate. At the end of each tax year, which runs between 6 April and 5 April, we will work out, in conjunction with HMRC, whether you paid the right amount of tax and what you may be owed.
Even if you only worked from home for even 1 day between 6 April 2021 and 5 April 2025, you could claim a refund for the whole of that tax year.
You will not automatically receive the allowance and many taxpayers are missing out as a result.
HMRC allows taxpayers to claim a flat rate allowance which is easy to claim and all online – no paperwork required.
